GROSHONG® CATHETER CARE AND MANAGEMENT PROCEDURE
TO THE GROSHONG® CATHETER PATIENT
You
now have a semi-permanent central venous catheter. This catheter
gives us access to your veins without inserting a needle into your
hands or arms. This catheter requires weekly care. It must be flushed
with saline every week to keep catheter patent. The skin around
the catheter must be kept clean and a sterile dressing is required
over the area where the catheter exits the skin. With care, your
GROSHONG® catheter will remain free of complications.
This care will become as routine as brushing your teeth, but never
let it become so routine that you break the rules of sterility.
