Nutritional Support Services

Doctors prescribe total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and enteral nutrition therapies for cases in which the patient cannot receive adequate nutrition by mouth. These therapies deliver nutrition by means of a tube placed either into the gastrointestinal tract below the area of the disease, or into the patient's veins.

A registered nurse specializing in nutrition support first consults with the referring physician, then provides personalized training for the patient and family members who may actually administer the treatment. Prior to the start of home nutrition therapy, we deliver supplies and medications to provide a smooth transition to Infusion Therapy. Horizon Healthcare Services also provides instruction in nutrition therapies for nursing home staffs. This one-to-one interaction with the physician, home health nurse, patient, and patient's family provides continuity in the plan of care.
